Arjun Bijlani on Supreme Court’s Stray Dog Verdict: “My Heart Breaks Just to Imagine What’s Going to Happen”

Actor Arjun Bijlani has expressed his concern and sadness following the Supreme Court’s recent verdict regarding stray dogs in Delhi-NCR, which calls for them to be relocated to shelters. Known for being a passionate dog lover, the Naagin actor admitted that the news left him unsettled.

“It’s very unfortunate that stray dogs are going to be put in shelters,” Arjun said. “I don’t know if there are so many shelters in the first place for so many dogs to be accommodated. I don’t know what kind of treatment they will have in the shelters, which is another big debate. Being a dog lover, my heart breaks just to imagine what’s going to happen.”

The actor highlighted the need for proper infrastructure before such a large move could be implemented. “I wish we had the infrastructure for the same. If it’s there, the shelters have to be inspected to see whether the dogs are taken care of,” he added, pointing out the challenges of ensuring animal welfare on such a large scale.

Despite his concerns, Bijlani made it clear that his comments were not aimed at criticising the apex court. “I respect the Supreme Court. I totally believe in the institution. I think they should make more laws like this for people who create nuisance on roads… there are a lot of things that go wrong in society that also need to be fixed,” he clarified.

For the actor, the solution lies not only in relocation but also in preventive measures such as vaccinations and sterilisation. “The dogs need to be neutered so that they don’t keep increasing… The solution is complicated. We need to think about the long-term solution and animals,” he emphasized.

Arjun’s heartfelt words reflect the sentiments of many animal lovers who worry about the future of India’s stray dogs and hope for a balance between public safety and animal welfare.
