Vivaan Arora on Independence Day: “Freedom is a Living Responsibility, Not Just a Historic Gift”

As India celebrates its 78th Independence Day, actor Vivaan Arora — known for his work in Punjabi films like Dramebaaz Kalakaar and Haq: The Right, his music video with singer Tochi Raina, and TV shows including Supercop Super Villain, Ashi, and the cult horror series Aahat — shares a heartfelt reflection on the deeper meaning of freedom.

For many, Independence Day has become synonymous with patriotic songs, flag-hoisting ceremonies, and symbolic social media posts. But for Arora, the true spirit of 15th August lies in understanding that patriotism is not just about celebration, but about consistent action.

> “I feel patriotism today has become more about display than depth. We see flags on social media and slogans on this one day, but real patriotism is in the small, consistent things we do for the country all year. Paying taxes honestly, following laws, respecting public spaces — these may not sound glamorous, but they’re the true ways to honour the freedom we enjoy. Independence Day should remind us that freedom is a living responsibility, not just a historic gift,” he explains.

Arora draws inspiration from revolutionary icon Bhagat Singh, whose clarity of thought and unwavering courage continue to inspire generations.

> “For me, Bhagat Singh has always been a huge inspiration. He was so young yet so aware of the bigger picture. His clarity of thought, his fearlessness, and his belief in the power of ideas are qualities I deeply admire. He didn’t just fight with weapons — he fought with conviction, intellect, and vision for a better India.”

The actor also emphasizes the importance of looking beyond history and focusing on the present and future India that citizens are collectively building.

> “Be proud of our history, but also be conscious of the present we’re creating. Freedom isn’t just about what we inherited from our heroes — it’s about the values we pass on to the next generation. Let’s protect our environment, treat each other with respect, and make sure that when we talk about India’s future, we’re building one our freedom fighters would be proud of.”

Arora’s message comes as a timely reminder that independence is not a one-day event, but a responsibility to be lived and honoured every single day
