Lowest Voter Turnout since 2014 in Uttar Pradesh's Ghaziabad and Gautam Buddha Nagar

The recent Lok Sabha polls in Uttar Pradesh's Ghaziabad and Gautam Buddha Nagar constituencies, both located in the national capital region, witnessed a disappointing voter turnout, recording the lowest figures since 2014. With numbers below 55%, these seats, which have been integral to India's electoral landscape since their inception in 2008, saw a concerning lack of voter participation.

Data from the Election Commission of India revealed that Ghaziabad recorded a turnout of just 49.65%, while Gautam Buddha Nagar fared slightly better at 53%. Despite being below the national average in previous elections, the turnout this time was notably dismal compared to recent years. The average voter participation across India was 66.44% in 2014, which increased marginally to 67.40% in 2019.

The low turnout in these constituencies is significant given their strategic location and political importance. As part of the national capital region, Ghaziabad and Gautam Buddha Nagar play crucial roles in shaping electoral outcomes. The subdued participation underscores the need for deeper analysis and efforts to understand and address the factors contributing to voter apathy in these areas.
