The government will not take back the Nazul land of St. Joseph Academy, the Chief Secretary gave instructions to renew the lease
The government will not take back the land of Dehradun's prestigious school St. Joseph Academy. The government has issued a new order just a day after the measurement of the land on Tuesday. The government has decided that about 21 bighas of Nazul land of the school will not be taken back and the process of renewal of lease will be done. CM Dhami gave instructions to the Chief Secretary in this regard. Chief Secretary Radha Raturi has also directed the Housing Department to take action as per rules on the lease renewal of St. Joseph Academy.
On the instructions of Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami, Chief Secretary Radha Raturi held a meeting with Secretary Housing, District Magistrate and Senior Superintendent of Police Dehradun and MDDA in the Secretariat on the land and parking case of St. Joseph Academy, Dehradun. In the meeting held on Wednesday, the order of the Housing Secretary dated 18 September was overturned. It has been decided in the meeting that the land will not be taken back from St. Joseph Academy. Along with this, the Chief Secretary has directed that the parking arrangement of the vehicles of the students and parents will be made by St. Joseph Academy within the school premises itself, so that the general public does not have to face traffic problems on the main road.
Let us tell you that the lease period of about 21 bigha (more than 28 thousand square meters) Nazul land occupied by St. Joseph Academy had expired in January 2024. The school's Nazul land was not renewed in view of the traffic pressure in the area around the school. On September 18, the Housing Secretary had ordered the withdrawal of the school's Nazul land. It was said in this order that the land is being taken back to solve the problem of parking due to the expansion of the Secretariat and traffic pressure. The committee formed on this issue measured about 21 bigha Nazul (government) land occupied by the school on Tuesday. But just a day later, the government has given a big relief to the school management by reversing its order.
In 2012-13 also, the machinery had to sweat to take back 3312 square meters of school's Nazul land for the widening of Glab Chowk in the city. Then the government machinery had to step back.
