Somy Ali Shares Emotional Tribute to Mithun Chakraborty, Calls Him Her Favourite Co-Actor
Actress Somy Ali shares heartfelt memories of working with Mithun Chakraborty, calling him the kindest and most compassionate co-star from her Bollywood journey.

Somy Ali: There’s No One As Kind and Compassionate as Mithunda
Former Bollywood actress and now humanitarian, Somy Ali, took a nostalgic turn recently, revisiting her fondest memories from her film career in the 1990s. And while she worked with many leading actors of the time, one name stood out: Mithun Chakraborty, affectionately called Mithunda.
In an emotional Instagram post, Somy shared a still from the 1994 film Yaar Gaddar, where she starred opposite Mithun. Her caption went beyond the usual throwback—she poured out heartfelt gratitude for the veteran actor's patience, humility, and warmth. “The most movies I did was with my fav Mithunda. I remember this scene in particular as he had to slap me and I was terrified about getting the timing right. He was the one actor who was always willing to rehearse a million times to put me at ease,” she wrote.
Somy went on to describe how working with Mithun was more than just a professional experience—it was a deeply personal privilege. “For someone who grew up watching him and my mom being a huge fan of his, it was no short of an honor and a privilege to have done so many movies with him,” she said. “An icon, a legend, a huge star, but not once did he show a speck of arrogance while we worked together. He was my favorite co-star and a mentor. I miss him tremendously to date.”
The sincerity in her words reflects the impact Mithun Da had—not just as an actor—but as a human being. In an industry known for egos and glamour, Somy remembers him for his compassion, humility, and willingness to support co-stars.
While Somy Ali may have stepped away from the film industry, her brief Bollywood journey still holds stories worth telling. Films like Anth, Aao Pyaar Karen, and Yaar Gaddar marked her career, but it is the people behind the scenes—like Mithun Da—who left a lasting impression on her heart.
Today, Somy runs her U.S.-based NGO, No More Tears, which helps victims of human trafficking and domestic abuse. Her life has evolved far from the film sets of Mumbai, but memories like these remind her (and us) of the moments that shaped her journey.
In a world that’s often chasing fame, it’s rare and beautiful to hear someone speak with such love about kindness and mentorship. Mithun Chakraborty, through Somy’s eyes, wasn’t just a superstar—he was a deeply good human being. And that, perhaps, is the greatest legacy of all.
