Pakistan suffered a big blow, No Support from the friend in UN; maintained silence on Kashmir issue
In 2019, when India abolished Article 370, Erdogan supported Pakistan in his speech and said that peace cannot be established in South Asia without resolving the Kashmir issue. After this, he compared Kashmir to the Gaza Strip and demanded its solution on the basis of the UN resolution. This year Erdogan did not mention Kashmir in the UNGA.
Pakistan, which has been trying to raise the Kashmir issue every year in the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA), has had to face defeat this time. The biggest blow to Pakistan has been given by its friendly country Turkey's President Recep Erdogan, who has not mentioned Kashmir in his speech in the UNGA. Whereas for the last five years, the President of Turkey has been continuously raising the issue of Kashmir.
The President of Turkey mentioned Kashmir in every speech of the UNGA from the year 2019 to the year 2923 and many times he has also made sharp attacks on India.
No mention of Kashmir
On knowing about the abolition of Article 370, Erdogan supported Pakistan and said that peace cannot be established in South Asia without resolving the Kashmir issue. After this, he demanded its solution on the basis of the United Nations resolution. But this year he raised the issue of Gaza but did not mention Kashmir.
Occupation of Kashmir
Pakistan has also received help from Malaysia in the past on Kashmir. In the year 2019, the then PM Mahathir Mohammad had baselessly accused India of occupying Kashmir in his speech at the UNGA. After Mohammad, the second PM of Malaysia did not do so and neither is it likely to do so this year.
Experts say that the reason behind Erdogan's changed attitude is his desire to enter the Brazil, Russia, India, China and South Africa (BRICS) organization. To become a member of BRICS, Turkey needs India's support.
This is why the Kashmir issue was not raised
Erdogan participated in the G-20 summit held in New Delhi last year and he also had a bilateral meeting with PM Modi. Since then, the attitude of the Erdogan administration has changed. Due to raising the Kashmir issue, India had slowed down the pace of cooperation in the defense and business sector. Now there are indications that talks on these can move forward again.
